Flatware & Serving Pieces

The term flatware as applied today usually refers to services of silver spoons and forks. In its wider sense, though, it also includes such objects as plates and dishes, these being flat as opposed to hollow. Flatware services are a comparatively recent introduction in the history of English silver, developing from the late seventeenth century.
